DE Northeast Corridor Third Track

Delaware Department of Transportation

Northeast Corridor Third Track

Cost Estimate: $52 million

DelDOT is reconstructing a third track in a segment of the Northeast Corridor that was reduced from three to two tracks back in the 1970s. This location, south of Wilmington Station, has been identified as a chokepoint in Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor Infrastructure Master Plan. The third track will provide increased capacity and service reliability for intercity, long-distance, and commuter-rail service.

Completion is estimated in September 2014.

"Delaware is a small state located on the Amtrak Northeast Corridor, so passenger rail is uniquely important to connect Delaware to the surrounding region and the nation. The third track will add needed capacity and ensure reliability for Delaware and for all travelers on the Northeast Corridor."

-          Shailen Bhatt, Delaware secretary of transportation
