Delmarva Intercity Rail Study

Feasibility Study

Cost Estimate: $900,000

DelDOT is performing a feasibility study for implementation of intercity passenger rail service on existing freight lines between destinations on the Northeast Corridor and southern Delaware and/or the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Future work will include preliminary design and environmental reviews if construction is justified by ridership and cost/benefit analyses.

"This joint project of Delaware and Maryland will determine the feasibility of passenger rail service in a busy travel corridor, linking rapidly growing resort and retirement areas with the Amtrak Northeast Corridor and metropolitan regions."

-          Shailen Bhatt, Delaware secretary of transportation
