Keystone Corridor and the Pennsylvanian Improvements
Cost Estimate: $73 million
PennDOT is engaged in five segments of improvements to two Amtrak routes: the Keystone Corridor and the Pennsylvanian.
Work includes eliminating grade-level highway/railroad crossings, Paoli Substation upgrades, interlocking final design and construction, communications and signal enhancements, and a study of the Keystone West Corridor.
Benefits include increased safety for motorists and train passengers, allowing faster train speeds, decreasing trip times, and planning for improved rail service between Harrisburg and Pittsburgh. All projects are estimated to conclude by 2017.
