MO State Rail Plan

Missouri Department of Transportation
Missouri 2012 State Rail Plan

Cost Estimate: $500,000

MoDOT is drafting a new State Rail Plan to provide the strategic framework for the development of a more efficient freight and passenger rail system in Missouri for the next 20 years.

The plan will include a comprehensive analysis and planning process for Missouri’s rail system. It will explore continued enhancements of the Kansas City-to-St. Louis passenger rail corridor, which carries the state-sponsored Amtrak “Missouri River Runner” service; gauge interest in new passenger rail corridor developments; identify projects and investments needed to improve the performance and reliability of passenger and freight train movements; and determine improvements to increase rail/highway crossing safety.

The planning process includes an extensive public outreach effort. Community leader workshops and public meetings were held at various locations across the state in October and early November last year. The plan is expected to be completed by May 2012.
