Missouri Department of Transportation
Second Railroad Bridge over the Osage River
Cost Estimate: $28 million
MoDOT, Union Pacific Railroad, Amtrak, and the Federal Railroad Administration signed a service agreement in Summer 2011 to allow work to begin on Missouri's first rail infrastructure project funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The project will construct a second rail bridge over the Osage River that will eliminate the last single-track portion between Jefferson City and St. Louis.
Currently the department is in the process of purchasing purchase right of way for the project. Construction is expected to begin in early Spring 2012. Once complete, the effort will build even more reliability into Missouri’s passenger rail service and increase the capacity for delivering freight.
