Susquehanna River Railroad Bridge

Maryland Department of Transportation

Susquehanna River Railroad Bridge Replacement

Preliminary Engineering

Cost Estimate: $22 million

The Susquehanna River Bridge is located north of Baltimore on Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor. While most of the railroad north of Baltimore is three or more tracks, the Susquehanna Bridge carries only two tracks. The bridge, along with the nearby Bush and Gunpowder bridges on the NEC, is approximately 100 years old.

Both Maryland’s MARC Commuter Rail Growth and Investment Plan as well as Amtrak’s NEC Master Plan include replacing these bridges for capacity needs with new structures that could carry three or four tracks.
