Richmond to Washington Preliminary Engineering

Cost Estimate: $55 million

VDOT is completing initial engineering and environmental review will result in the documentation and approvals required to support the final design and construction of a high-speed-rail segment connecting the nation’s capital with Richmond.


Proposed investments include track and signal upgrades to achieve higher operating speeds. Upgrades would include curve realignments, high-speed interlockings, and highway/railroad grade crossing reductions, station improvements, and the addition of a third track in certain areas.
